Our Science
Rinse away hardened Knox in minutes, without the pain.
Knox gelatin is a denatured type-I collagen. KnoxAway® does not strip the hardened gel with harsh solvents or alkalinity. KnoxAway® depolymerises the hardened gel enzymatically, at the hair's own pH, and then rebuilds and conditions the surface it leaves behind.
The Science and Our Family
Enzymes do the work gently.
Unlike other products that use enzymes commonly found in tenderizers, KnoxAway's proprietary CollaginasePro™ specifically targets only the Knox collagen protein you want to remove. It leaves the other proteins naturally found in your hair and scalp untouched, helping keep them healthy, refreshed, and nourished. Our proprietary enzyme is more than twice as active as any other known Collagen protease enzyme.
CollagenasePro™ Penetrates the Helmet
CollagenasePro is a collagenase-class protease selected for activity against denatured type-I collagen — the exact substrate Knox gelatin is made from. In warm water (38–43 °C) it diffuses into the dried film and cleaves peptide bonds at Gly-X-Y repeats, converting a continuous rigid network into short, water-soluble peptide fragments.
Condition & Restore
Cationic conditioning agents deposit on the anionic cuticle surface exposed once the gelatin lifts. This re-establishes surface lubricity, lowers wet-comb force, and reduces the mechanical breakage normally caused by scraping hardened gel out of the hair shaft.
Hydration Lifts the Knox Away
Humectants re-hydrate the collagen film. Rehydration swells the matrix, opens diffusion channels for the enzyme, and shifts the gel from a brittle glassy state back through its sol–gel transition so it releases in clusters rather than flaking.
Complete Hair Recovery
Because removal is enzymatic rather than abrasive or high-pH, the cuticle scale layer stays closed. No sulfates, no mechanical scraping, no alkaline swelling — the fiber returns to baseline gloss and tensile behavior after a single rinse cycle.
How it works
A three-step process engineered to lift the Knox helmet and restore your hair in one easy routine.
01
Create channels
CollagenasePro enzyme penetrates the hard Knox protein network, creating microscopic channels through the stiff gelatin structure.
02
Hydrate & release
Hydrating agents draw water through those channels to the hair surface, softening and releasing the gelatin so it rinses away cleanly. Washing out residual chlorine.
03
Condition & protect
Premium conditioning agents penetrate and cling to your hair after the Knox releases, allowing easier, smoother combing.
KnoxAway is a complete solution.
Replace your hard and painful mechanical work and scalding water with a specially designed, gentle enzyme.
Mechanism Overview
How KnoxAway® works
From hardened gelatin matrix to clean, conditioned hair.

KnoxAway®'s CollagenasePro enzyme opens the hardened gelatin network, allowing water and conditioning agents to reach the hair and helping the loosened matrix rinse away — leaving hair clean, smooth, and conditioned.
The conventional harmful approach
Hot Water & Detergent Method
The traditional way to remove a hardened Knox gelatin helmet relies on heat and harsh detergents. Here's what that actually does to your hair.
Heat softens the hardened gel coating, loosening the gel matrix.
01
Detergent scrubs the hair loose from the gel — and strips healthy natural oils and nutrients from the hair in the process.
03
02
Heat plus detergent scrubbing is repeated several times.
The stripping action from harsh detergents leaves hair dried out, lifeless, and damaged.
04
05
Combined, the heat and repeated detergent exposure causes further harm.
In contrast, KnoxAway® works differently
An enzyme doesn't need extreme heat to work, or any strong detergents. Instead, KnoxAway® can include humectants, moisturizers, and conditioners to keep hair healthy and smooth — so your hair comes out of the routine soft, not stripped.
No extreme heat
No harsh detergents

Scientific Explanation
Selective Enzyme Action
KnoxAway® contains patented enzyme technology designed to weaken the hardened protein network created by Knox gelatin — not the hair itself.
Matrix Breakdown
As the protein matrix loosens, humectants and water penetrates deeper, allowing the gelatin to separate from the hair instead of remaining bonded to it.
Conditioning Phase
Moisturizing and conditioning ingredients cling to coat the hair while the gelatin continues releasing.
Clean Finish
Once rinsed, the remaining gelatin leaves with the water while conditioners remain on the hair shaft.
